Care of your BIOROCK

BIOROCK Care

The BIOROCK is a very simple treatment system that, installed correctly, will give many years of service. However, because it is a FILTER system, special consideration must be given to avoid pouring things down the sink that could clog the BIOROCK filtration media.

The pre-filter in the settlement tank prevents larger solids over 1/16th" entering the BIOROCK, but smaller particles can get through.

  • Do not allow large amounts of fats, oil and grease to enter the system. These will pass through the settlement tank filter in solution, solidifying and clogging it in the process and also solidify within the BIOROCK media, blocking the passage of the effluent and effectively 'waterproofing' it. Normal household wastewater is fine, but don't, for example, wash the chip pan in the sink. Wash it in a bowl and pour it outside, etc.
  • Don't empty coffee grinds, tea leaves, etc. down the sink as these too will clog the Biorock media.
  • Some cotton wool items tend to 'shred' into fine filaments and these too can clog the media.
